For farmers in more modern and further developed countries, the experience of growing GM crops is just as rewarding as using non-modified crops, if not more. The majority of armers in the United States are extremely embracive of GM crops than farmers in other countries due to the immediate benefits present here. Farmers’ incomes are increased on account of the greater survival and yields of various types of crops. At the same time, less land is used, thus protecting surrounding areas from damage or overuse.

With GM crops, farmers also experience decreased use of pesticides and herbicides which can be significantly costly and potentially affect the health of their crops and consumers.

Often during intense rainstorms, if too much pesticide is used, the chemicals will be carried by flooded waters and contaminate the watery environment. This is a detriment to the organisms exposed to the water, often leading to their death and the process of eutrophication. Eutrophication is the downgrading of a water based environment where dissolved oxygen levels decrease, organisms die, and decomposers increase. The quality of the water becomes murky and is often unsafe for organisms to live in, thus decreasing biodiversity.

By having pesticides genetically built into the crops themselves, there is no need for excessive amounts of them in the fields where they can be washed into streams and rivers, contaminating the environment for various organism and the quality of water for humans.
